The day we get jobs, we are very happy… as we are going to start our own life… life towards our financial independence… so that we don’t have to ask parents for monthly expenses.

After having a work experience of 3 yrs, I doubt if we can still say ourselves financially independent.

The more we grow... more we earn... the more our liabilities increase. Higher you grow, higher is the social status u need to maintain: a high-end cell phone, a good 2-wheeler/4-wheeler, good dressing style… etcetera etc. And, once you are married, you are gone. You can’t even dream of a situation when you are not earning.

So, I think, it will not be wrong in saying that even after earning 30-40K per month, we are not financially independent. Only the dependency has shifted from parents to self.

its effects on employees (mainly those employees who actually work so that company gets the revenue). I would like to share that story with you all.

Disclaimer: Following story is an art of imagination with some tints of (hidden) truth in it. Your views may differ (but i am sure that unless you are above a level of Director, you will also agree to it).

Sandeep received HIS pink slip today. He is shattered. He has worked very hard for three years. Suddenly the market is on a downward spiral, the company is not doing so well, and he is left without a job. How will he pay his bills now? How will he repay his EMI? What will he do?
He went to his boss. The boss said, "The management said that I don't need a 10-member team; I can do with seven. So I was asked to give pink slips to three." "Why me?" demanded Sandeep. The boss explained, "We looked at your appraisal from last year and you were the second lowest, so I had to let you go. I am sorry." Sandeep started raising his voice, "You were the one who said that this appraisal business is all humbug, something you really don't believe in it. You only said that it was process and as far as you were concerned, it was just a tick mark. I believed you. And now it has cost me my job." "I am sorry," said boss, refusing to meet his eye.
There was one thing Sandeep's boss did not tell him about — the managers meeting where everyone made a list of their favourites and subsequently found reasons to put the rest on the chopping block. The method of elimination — appraisal scores in some cases, insubordination in another — did not matter to the management. What mattered was the reduction in headcount. Costs had to be brought down.
The CFO does not know Sandeep's name. For him Sandeep is but a statistic. All he told his CEO was, "We cannot pay all of them so let's reduce headcount from 120 to110 or maybe 100." The CEO said, "Maybe there is another option; we can reduce the salaries of the top management." The CFO glared at the CEO and said, "You can reduce your salary but not mine." None of the management was willing to cut their salary; so jobs had to go. Reasons were elaborately created to justify the pink slip. Now Sandeep has to fend for himself. He has no one's patronage. He is no one's favourite. He is a man without a leader.

Sandeep's story has been told in the Mahabharata. His name was Sunahshepa then.
One of the several versions of the story goes that there was a king, sometime identified as Harishchandra and sometime identified Ambarisha, who had an attack of dropsy — his body swelled up with fluid. He prayed to Varuna, god of water, and said, "If I am cured, I will sacrifice my son." As soon as he said this, he was cured. His limbs became normal. His fingers and face were no longer bloated. "My sacrifice?" asked Varuna. Now that he was cured, the king found it harder to part with his son. So he called the wise men of his kingdom, and told them to find a way out. "How can I make Varuna happy without losing my son?" he asked.
The wise men said a son is defined in many ways according to the scriptures: one is the son you produce biologically, another is the son who is adopted and finally there is another son that you can buy. On hearing this king said, "Go buy me a son." The wise men went around the kingdom, but no man was willing to sell their son. How can our king ask us to part with a son, they wondered. Who would do such a thing?
After a long search, the wise men found a poor priest willing to sell his son for the price of 100 cows. His name was Ajigarta. He said, "I have three sons. I will not sell my eldest son because he is very dear to me, and I cannot sell the youngest because he is dear to his mother. I will sell my middle son, Sunahshepa, because I have no choice. I am very poor and I need to feed my family."
Thus, Sunahshepa became the son of the king and was brought to the palace on a golden palanquin. He was quite excited until, after being fed and clothed and given gifts meant for princes, he was taken and tied to a sacrificial post. "You, Sunahshepa, are to be sacrificed to Varuna so that your father, the king, is free of debt," said the wise men. Realising his hopeless situation, Sunahshepa began to cry.
The executioner was called to sacrifice the boy. "I will not sacrifice the boy; he is no criminal," said the executioner. The butcher was called to sacrifice the boy. "I will not sacrifice the boy, he is no animal," said the butcher. The priests were told to sacrifice the boy. "We will not sacrifice the boy. That is not part of our responsibility," said the priests. Suddenly a voice rang across the sacrificial hall, "I will. I will. For 100 more cows." It was Ajigarta, Sunahshepa's father.
Aghast, everybody looked at the father, and said, "When you sold your son, your reason was poverty. What is your reason now?" "Why should I feel ashamed," said Ajigarta, "When the king is not ashamed to sacrifice one of his subjects to save his son."
Watching his father move towards the chopping block, axe in hand, Sunahshepa realised he had no one he could turn to, neither father nor king. In despair, he raised his head and sang prayers, begging for divine intervention. The scriptures say Varuna was moved by the prayers; he saved the boy, cured the king and all ended well. But did it actually?
There are many Sunahshepas in the corporate world – victims of greed, stripped of livelihood because someone wants to protect favourites, someone wants reduction in head count and no one wants reduction in their own salary. Sunahshepas are created when leaders refuse to make sacrifices of their own.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); Greenhouse Effect
2. Global warming
3. Depleting Ozone layer
4. Pollution
5. Depleting Non-Renewable sources of energy

Have we ever thought of what we can do regarding these problems? Have we ever thought that even a small step by each of us can bring a major difference?

There are some of the problems which certainly we can do about and that too alone. All these are very small things but matter a lot in saving the environment and our surroundings. If everyone takes some initiatives, we will be able to overcome those problems at least up to some extent.
But are we really working towards it??

Some of the things which can be done by the individuals are:
1. Turn off tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.
2. We should shut down our computer when not in use, instead of leaving it in stand by mode
3. Should take a reusable bag when going for shopping
4. Use public transport or cycle or walk for short distances
5. Adopt a car pool scheme with friend or colleague for journey to and from office.
6. Use of power saver light bulbs (CFLs)
7. Keep the refrigerator back clean so it work more efficiently
8. Timely maintenance of your vehicle (car, bike) or even the home appliances so that they donot consume much of power.
9. Avoid usage of polyethene. Always take a carry bag to market when we for shopping

Is the effort of individuals sufficient in such a critical condition? Certainly not. Some or the other efforts need to be taken by everyone... the corporate world, government everyone.

But, when it comes to the corporate groups, we generally think, what can be done on this front as corporate groups? Corporate groups can be of several category like, industries, corporate offices, organizations.
Everyone know that industries can play a very important role but we also know that these are among those which violate the conditions most... may be to makeup profit, increase their revenues.
Have anyone thought of methods by which other corporate groups can bring the difference? Moreover, have anyone bothered of even thinking about it?

Well, i was forced to think on this front by Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai, Deputy CEO, HSBC India when i had attended the seminar on Leadership week (PRODIGIES, Leadership Summit 2008 by Indian Institue of Management, Lucknow (IIML) ). When i ran the horses of my mind, i could find only the following methods:
1. Corporate firms/companies should have their vehicles to commute so as to reduce pollution. Also, it should encourage its employees for this.
2. (Atleast in IT industry) We can have centralized settings so that the monitors go in power saver mode if not used for more than some duration.
3. Have separate recyclable waste and non-recyclable waste bins. Recyclable waste can be recycled again.

But, she helped us think on the other ways which we (as corporates) can adopt. Some of them (some are specific to her domain ie, banks) which she specified are as below:
1. Loans to industries only if they satisfying the global pollution norms
2. Encouraging use of bio-diesel generators in the companies
3. Encouraging the employees in the Tree Plantation activities
4. Use of Solar energy in the offices

The third and most important organization which NEED to play its role is the Government, Government of various Countries.
Some of the ways by which the government and government organizations can help are as follows:
1. Enforcing strict laws and panelties to those who dont follow the norms.
2. Replacing all the traffic signals which operate on traditional bulbs to those using digital LEDs.
3. Replacing all the traditional street lights using bulbs to use light saving lamps.
4. Ban the bulbs (although it will be a gradual task especially in a country like India where we have voltage fluctuation problems which lead to non-lightening of tubelights..... especially in rural areas)

After this, i can say that we can change the world. The only thing is we need to think beyond the boundaries and break the BUT-OBVIOUS scenerios and we can find so many ways to work by which we can help prevent our beautiful nature.

PS: I would be happy to add any of the steps which we can take to save our NATURE and Environment which you can think of and are not listed above.

!!! State the obvious. May be other person has not realized it !!!

Are we growing?? Point to think about Indian Trade

Last week, i attended a seminar of Leadership organized by IIM L students, PRODIGIES, Leadership Summit 2008.

There I came across some of the astonishing facts about of Indian Trade and Economy which i would like to share:

The following table lists down the % of World Trade which India contributed.

Early 19th Century : 20 %
Early 20th Century: 6 %
1947 : 2%
1990-91 : 0.6%
2006 : 1.4-1.6%

(This was brought to us by Mr J.J.Irani, Director, Tata Steels who was one of our speakers in the summit)

This data just made me think:
1. Are these data correct? (Especially related to the Early 19th Century & early 20th Century). The time when some of the continents were not even explored. The trade was within the continents. Also, not even inter-continent. (except for a few locations)
2. Does this data consider the trade within the country's local markets or it simply considers the global (inter-country) trade? If it consider(s) the local Market trading, were we aware of the other amount of trade being done in other countries in other continents and sub-continents?
3. If it counts only for the Global Trade, then the point is that at that period of time, the trade across the countries was very less due to unexplored countries and continents. And the trade in India was mainly due to the Spices and the Uranium rich sand on the east coast of the Indian Subcontinent. (Most of the people don't know about the second reason mentioned)

Along with this, i read something: "Assessment of India's pre-colonial economy is mostly qualitative, owing to the lack of quantitative information. One estimate puts the revenue of Akbar's Mughal Empire in 1600 at £17.5 million, in contrast with the total revenue of Great Britain in 1800, which totalled £16 million. India, by the time of the arrival of the British, was a largely traditional agrarian economy with a dominant subsistence sector dependent on primitive technology. It existed alongside a competitively developed network of commerce, manufacturing and credit. After the fall of the Mughals, India was administered by Maratha Empire. The maratha empire's budget in 1740s, at its peak, was Rs. 100 million"
(Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_India#Pre-colonial)

Well, i am not here to question the above data. I am writing this to give a thought on the current figures considering that all the data mentioned above is correct.

The current data says that we are trading only the 1.5% of the total world trade but we say that we have reached a big milestone in terms of our trades. And we target to reach 2% by 2009-10. On the other hand, current ratio of US in global trade is 20%. Don't you think that we are much behind the world in terms of trade? Yes we all agree that we are much behind in terms of trade and we are growing and trying to meet those targets.
Also, we still are importing more than what we export, that too by 10-12%

The other most important point to think is the composition of our trade. What elements compose of our trade and in what %. (Will be giving the details of this later on).

Well, hopes to new EXIM policies that we will quickly reach our targets and gain our age-old importance and share in the world trade.

(Currently reading "A veiw From the Outside: by P.Chidambaram". Will come back with some views on his finance theory :-) )

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://vibhavagrawal.blogspot.com/2008/05/are-we-growing-point-to-think-about.html' title='Are we growing?? Not only I, almost everyone was excited about his/her new life. Everyone had new dreams... new expectations from the new life. We all were happy that within next one year we all would become financially self-dependent (I would prefer to say self-dependent instead of independent :D), and can be said to be mature enough to take our decisions (even though we sometimes make very very un-mature decisions till now :P and i have seen one very very un-matured decision by one of the girls in our company leading to the termination of one boy from the job... well thats a different issue!!!!!!)

But the life of college was also not bad... rather i would say... it was faaaaaaarrrrr more better than this professional life. We all lived an ulti-cool life.... no concerns about the things of life.
If anyone asked of studies our answer had been............. "Studies??????? ha ha ha ha ... what a silly question you are asking!!!!!!!". Even in the end sems we used to start our study at the 12 midnight for exam at 8 am and some time not even at that time...
And attending classes.. whats it all about?? I never saw myself attending first and second classes... :P
And the most interesting part was going to the teachers for asking for attendance so that we could sit for the exams as 75% was the minimum requirement for attending end sems.
How to eat... how to dress... all were the questions out of our scope of thoughts.
We lived the life with a feeling of "Who the hell care where we land up"......

But with the entry to the Corporate world, the whole world around us have changed. We have to be in formals (thank God, that my company dont have restriction to wear only the formals... and we are allowed to wear informals like jeans, T-shirts etc.. ), have to be in good looks... etc etc.
We have to keep studying to keep us updated with the latest technologies and implementations. Studies never take a break else you would be broken out of the circle. We have grown responsibilities from our care taking to the care taking of the project (work) for its proper execution and completion. Bunking is out of scope!!!!!!!

Isn't this cost of getting the feeling of Self-dependence too much????
but what could be done... this is the professional life..... Can say... "ITS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN"
I have a feeble hope of getting back to my OLD SIDE OF MY COIN!!!!!!
So, now let me ask a question..... How many of you want to be back to the OLD SIDE????????????

My New Laptop!!!!!!

Well... it would be a bit late to introduce my laptop from which i am currently writing all my posts. But even then i think that it wud be good to introduce it to u all.
My Laptop... Lenovo Y500 77614AQ with all the basic features... 80GB HDD, DVD Writer, 512 MB RAM, Web Cam etc etc... Its not a Hi-Tech Laptop which i had been thinking to have but is sufficient to fulfill my current needs.

It has been almost 3 months for which i had been using my laptop. But sometimes i feel that am i able to use my laptop for the work which i had intended to do before buying it?? Is it the right work which i have been doing on it for last 3 months??? I had thought of buying the laptop in the month of october'06 but due to some reasons and restrictions, was able to make it up by Feb'07 (but i could get it in mid March '07). I was very eager to have it as i wanted to practice my new domain in which i had been working ie, Java which is again a story.
Before entering into this corporate world (Professional Life), i used to say myself a basic C++ programmer, but entry to Professional life changed a lot many things. I was allocated a project in Java, J2EE and had my training in Core Java and Advanced Java (J2EE). I sometimes doubt that how was i able to learn Java so easily and quickly... ie. in just 2 weeks!!!!!! Yeah... i had done Core Java in just 5 days... (in a Core Java training of 5 days out of which i had missed initial 3 days due to some mis-management so effectively 2 days for Core java !!!!!!) and J2EE in next 5 days. (Thats a different issue that after Java training also, i was not knowing anything in Java :P). And that was the main reason why i wanted to have my Laptop to learn and practice Java. BUTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!! Was/Am I able to solve the purpose for which my Laptop was bought????????????????? Well... this had been the biggest question in my mind for last 3 months... And now i can proudly say that i have done something (not much... but yeah.. something) which is as per my initial thoughts.... As, i am about to release my first Product/Project :) Although, its not as per my expectations.. but that little work too will do ;) And it should do... as... "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".....

But i think from next time i need to be more efficient on my work bcoz as i am spending time in my job... its becoming increased responsibilities and efforts ..... as a result my aspiration and expectation related to my ultimate goal (sorry its something secret :P but i assure you all that i would be opening this pandora's box too some time [:)] down the line) might get hampered.......

But i believe in "Everything will go good for you..... as its all written by Almighty...... :) He might have something too good for you in his reserves...."

So, just waiting for that time to come..........

Bbye for now...... catch u all in my next post (hopefully with the release of MyCodeCounter [:)] )

Back to my Blogs!!!!!!

Sorry for being out of my blog for soooooo longggg.... but i think i am back.... (unless i get out of touch of my net connection :( )
And I am back to this blog with a new blog of mine.... "My Products/Projects" available just in the links of 'My Other Blogs'.

So... it had been tooo long and a lot many incidents happened in this long 1.5 yr time frame.. starting from facing tough times in my end days at my college... then end of my college life... and then joining the professional life...

And there comes the point of monotonicity.... THE PROFESSIONAL LIFE!!!!!!!!
Even after passing the 11 months of my professional life... now also, i feel that i am at the same place where i was 11 months back... trying to understand this professional world... and i think i will spend my whole life in understanding it... and even though i will feel my whole life to be very small time to learn and understand this professional world.

Everyday in the evening i feel that i have learnt a lot much about this professional world, but the next day morning i find myself back to the same point where i was last morning... with some more complications, terms and conditions etc etc of this professional world....

Well, don't be confused :) and i may be presenting some of my incidents which may help you decide and know more about this professional world.

So... till then...

bbyeeeeeee...

Happy New Year !!!!!!

Hi all,

A very very Happy New Year to you....
Well, me a bit late to have this post.. kya karoon itna lazy jo hoon :D :D

Some of my experiences for the past year (might be .. i am boring you .. :D)

Year 2005: This had been a special year for me.. full of all types of expressions starting from sad to happy.. full of excitements... a lot many things which taught me a lot... and most important, this year brought a very special person to my life .... (surprise for now.. wait a bit :D) ... This is the most imp year of my life and i wil never forget this throughout my life [:)]

This year started with a lot many responsibilites like coordinator for ROBOWARS, Coordinator for NYF (:D) (National Youth Festival), the event which changed my life......... [;)] .. taught a lot much about practical life...
These events made me feel the real heat of world..... that how much a person can be mean... ready to bury u under the deep earth and eating away all your credits... But I am very happy that i faced such things.. which taught me the life... real life...

NYF.... the event which gave a special experience to me......... [:D] .... helped me a lot in proposing a girl (first time experience) [:P] (kyun... chaunk gaye :D ) who had been my crush for 2 yrs ....... (usse pehle kabhi himmat hi nahin huyi yaar.... ) but to my hard luck.. i never got a reply... [:-(].. bas waiting and waiting till the end of life...

Also this event, proved to be a special gift of GOD to me... as it gave me my sweet angel...... the one who is most precious to me in my life... and i can do anything for this sweet angel...... and with the help of this sweet angel, came to my life my cute angel ..[:P].... [ :-/ .. is't it becoming confusing???? :D :D hota hai ... i know its a bit of tortourous :D to wait till i reveal the names ;) ], the second most precious to me...

And after that, came the life which did't let me overturn and see.. and life went to the full pace.. teaching me a lots and lot...... With the passage of each day... i am sure, i was taught a new thing... (Thanks to my branchmates who made my life a real HELL ... for the cause that i arranged the educational tour with some silly activities :D (kya karein harkat kare bina life main mazaa kahan :D) ... But i thank you GOD that i got such an experience which will help me throughout my life in choosing my friends and testing my colleagues)....

MOST IMP... This is the year which gave me the first experience of getting selected in a campus interview.. ( and thanks to HIM that i am the very lucky person.... getting 3 jobs.. jahan logon ki ek job bhi nahin lagi hai :-( )

But I would like to say.. that this step of success had not been there if my sweet angel.. would not have been there... She was always there to help me in every problem... guiding me at every instant of time... She was the one to encourage me at each my failure.... and showing me the light of hope....
In her absence, I would not have reached such Heights in my life....

Cheers to my sweet sister "Garima" and my cutie "Shweta" !!!!!!!!!!!

Life in final year @ college

It has been three and half years but kabhi bhi i did't have such a feel... which i am presntly having ...... cant say what type of feeling..... bas.. its a feel....
How i spent the 3 and half years of my beautiful life, i dont know.. i dont even remember how the time passed away.. It seems as just 3 months back only we joined this college and now its the time to leave it... all leaving behind r just the sweet memories of the time which i spend in this lovely college with my lovely and some of the sweet friends.

This life of 3 yr have taught me a lot.. starting from being professional, friendly, to be a matured person able to see and feel the world. This period made me realise the importance of friendship in life... This was the period which made me serious about loving someone.. Before the college life, i felt to be infatuated towards everyone.. every girl.. but this period taught me the right way to judge someone... Before this i used to take my life very causually, not only my life.. but all things in life... never caring for anyone.. just doing whatever i wished to ....
But this life made me feel the importance of listening to others and made me feel that whats right and wrong in my life......

And i would like to say that all this changes to my life came after coming of some special person in my life..... The one who overturned my life and taught me the right way to live, enjoy and realise the truth... the one without whom, i think i would have been the same a childish boy.... living casually my life....
When she came to my life... she changed my way of thinking to life... my way of spending it... living....etc..etc...

Now i can say that i am a bit matured person able to face this harsh world, all type of people... and all type of times... whether its goood or bad..

Thanks to my sweet sister Garima who taught me a new way to life.....

Seven things......
